Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie（寂しい草原に埋めないで）はアメリカの民謡です。
カウボーイの歌として有名で、『The Cowboy's Lament』『The Dying Cowboy』『Bury Me Out on the Lone Prairie』『Oh, Bury Me Not』などのタイトルでも知られています。
この曲は、町から離れた大草原に埋葬しないでほしいという、瀕死の男性の悲痛な願いを歌ったものですが、彼の願いにもかかわらず大草原に埋葬されてしまいました。
元は『The Sailor's Grave』もしくは『The Ocean Burial』という船乗りの歌をアレンジしたものです。
ジョン・フォードの西部劇「駅馬車」のサウンドトラックに採用されました。

作曲

作曲者は分かりませんが、元の曲と言われる『The Ocean Burial』の作曲者はジョージ・N・アレン（George N. Allen）です。

作詞

作詞者は分かりませんが、元の曲と言われる『The Ocean Burial』の作詞者はアメリカの詩人、エドウィン・ハベル・チェイピン (Edwin Hubbell Chapin,1814–1880)です。

And the cowboys now as they roam the plain,
For they marked the spot where his bones were lain,
Fling a handful o' roses o'er his grave
With a prayer to God his soul to save.

とてもカッコいい曲ですね。
カウボーイの願いは聞き入れられず、大草原に埋葬されてしまいます。
歌詞の最後だけ付けます。

　そしてカウボーイたちは今、平原を歩き回る
　彼らは彼の骨が埋葬されている場所に印を付けたから
　彼の墓に一握りのバラを投げる
　彼の魂が救われるよう神に祈りを捧げる
