この曲の歌詞は、実際には死んでいるかもしれない「ビューティフル・ドリーマー」に恋人がセレナーデを捧げる様子を歌っています。
日本語タイトルでは『夢路より』でも知られています。
この曲は数多くの録音が存在するだけでなく、多くの映画の中でも使われています。

作詞・作曲

この曲の作者は、アメリカの作曲家スティーブン・フォスター（Stephen Collins Foster,1826–1864）です。
『Beautiful Dreamer』は彼が書いた最後の曲で、作曲は死の数日前だったと言われていますが、それを否定する説も存在します。
いずれにしても、この曲はフォスター晩年の傑作として知られています。

歌曲としてソプラノのソリストが歌っている動画が多いのも納得できます。
