この曲の作者は、アメリカの作曲家スティーブン・フォスター（Stephen Collins Foster,1826–1864）です。
My Old Kentucky Home 懐かしきケンタッキーの我が家
My Old Kentucky Home（懐かしきケンタッキーの我が家）は1853年に出版されたアメリカの歌です。
タイトルは元々は『My Old Kentucky Home, Good-Night!』でしたが、Good-Night! が省略された短縮版で知られています。
1852年に出版された『Uncle Tom’s Cabin アンクル・トムの小屋』という小説からインスピレーションを得たと言われていて、小説は奴隷であったアフリカ系アメリカ人のトムの数奇で不幸な人生の物語です。
曲の歌詞もアフリカ系アメリカ人の苦難を物語っています。
この曲はケンタッキー州の州歌であり、日本ケンタッキー・フライド・チキンのCMでも使われています。
日本語タイトルは単に『ケンタッキーの我が家』とも言います。

歌詞の中で、アフリカ系アメリカ人奴隷を表す「darkies」は「people」や「children」に書き換えられています。

調べてみると意外にも苦難を語った歌なんですね。
歌詞も「darkies」ではなく「people」が多いようです。
私の記憶の中の歌詞は確かに「darkies」でしたが、この言葉をアフリカ系アメリカ人の苦難には結び付けずに歌っていたのは反省項目ですね。
動画はケンタッキーダービーの前に皆で『My old Kentucky Home』を歌うシーンをリンクさせていただきました。
