Go Down Moses　行け、モーセ

Go Down Moses（行け、モーセ）はアメリカの民謡（霊歌）です。
旧約聖書の中の「出エジプト記」に基く曲で、ヘブライ人をエジプトの束縛から解放するようにファラオに要求しなさいと、神がモーセに命じます。
エジプトで奴隷となっていたヘブライ人の解放の物語であり、そのままアメリカで奴隷となっていたアフリカ人たちに結び付きました。
元の歌詞は物語に従って長く、ファラオに会う場面から、ヨルダン川を渡ってカナンの地に入るまでを語っています。
ルイ・アームストロングによる演奏がよく知られていますが、そのバージョンはよりシンプルな歌詞になっています。

名曲ですね。
個人的に気に入っているのはバリトン歌手がコーラスとオーケストラで歌う演奏ですが、動画を探してみると実に色々な演奏があります。
そして優れた演奏が多い！
